4 Social Media Trends Brands Need to Know in 2023

The year 2022 brought us many breakthroughs in the social media world. Video content became the staple of advertising in place of photos and infographics. TikTok showed us a new way to learn about products and get to know a business on a deeper level. We also saw a shift into more authentic content from creators to reach their target audience. As we continue to track what worked and what brands are testing out on social media, there are certain trends emerging that may give brands an edge in the social sphere.

Whether you are looking to revamp your social media strategy, or just keeping an eye on what is fresh and new, here are four social media trends to look out for in 2023.

Authenticity is the New Refined

Long gone are the days of over-edited photos and giving off the idea of a “perfect” brand. Authenticity and brand transparency are becoming a very important value among consumers. Content that showcases your brand’s voice and values is going to help your audience feel connected to your brand. This also means avoiding creating content that has been used many times before. Creating authentic content is going to help drive brand loyalty which will help increase your profits.

Keyword Search is Becoming the New Google

Last year it was noted that many users of social media -specifically TikTik and Instagram- used keywords to research brands and products. Consumers are looking to find real and honest reviews of products from creators that actually tried the product. This way of learning about a company and their product is only going to continue to grow throughout 2023.

User Generated Content is Taking Over Big-Name Influencers

With authenticity becoming an important value among consumers, it makes sense that UGC (User Generated Content) has become so popular. Customers of a brand have become one of the greatest resources a brand can use to promote themselves. Brands can sponsor some of the content posted by customers, but plenty of times it is an unpaid, honest review by a consumer. Having this type of review helps build brand loyalty and the community between a brand and its consumers. In 2023, we will continue to see the growth of UGC and more brands using UGC to reach their target audience.

Video Will Continue to Dominate Content

More specifically, short-form video will continue to shoot to the top of the charts when compared to other forms of content like photos and Instagram stories. These short “bite-sized” videos are exactly as described -short- with the videos staying under 3 minutes to keep the attention span of the viewer. This content is simple to understand and consumers can get the gist of the video content without having to watch a full-sized video or read a blog post. This helps brands connect with their target audience in a fun and creative way. In 2023, we will see more brands branch out into using video shorts.
