Does your small business need a presence on Threads? 🧐 Let’s find out..
First Question: What is Threads?
A: Threads is a new app from Meta. The platform looks a lot like Twitter, with a feed of largely text-based posts — although users can also post photos and videos — where people can have real-time conversations.
Next Question: Does my brand need to be on Threads?
A: No. You don’t NEED to be on Threads. Just like your brand *probably* doesn’t have a Twitter presence, having a Threads presence is NOT a necessity. When it comes to social media marketing, you need to remember a few key things:
1️⃣ Quality over quantity.
2️⃣ Added value.
3️⃣ Reality.
You only have so many resources to devote to social media. Whether you’re doing it yourself (your time), or your outsourcing social (your money), you need to be putting in effort that returns results. If you’re already stretched thin, there’s no sense in adding another platform to your strategy. It’s better to do well with a few, than fail on many platforms.
If you’re on the fence, ask yourself this “What do I hope to gain from Threads?”
Right now, threads is a great source for conversation and exploration, but it’s not yet a SELLING or advertising platform, meaning “sales” posts won’t work with the conversations generating traction.
Next question: “Is my audience on Threads?”
Threads is gathering an audience with a range of ages, but the vast majority of users are under thirty years of age, with more users in larger cities. If your clientele is extremely local, or sees the bulk of it’s users above that 30+ mark, your content won’t hit the right people.
The bottom line: Threads is the next new shiny app, and it may well be a success down the line, but for now, your small business likely doesn’t need to be on the platform.
