As my internship at Oliver & Co Social comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on the past few months and everything I’ve learned. This experience has been both exciting and eye-opening, giving me valuable insights into the fast-paced world of social media and content creation. Here are my five biggest takeaways:
1. Storytelling is at the heart of social media.
I learned that successful content isn’t just about posting frequently, but rather it’s about telling stories that connect with an audience. Every caption, reel, and graphic should reflect a brand’s personality and purpose.
2. Blog posts build authenticity.
While social content is quick and engaging, I learned how blog posts serve a different but equally important role. Crafting blogs taught me how to write with more depth, provide valuable insights, and position Oliver and Co. as a brand as a trusted voice in its industry.
3. Catering to trends boosts engagement.
I discovered how current trends can be impactful to boosting engagement when applied intentionally, especially with reels. Using trending audio, formats, or visual styles often led to higher engagement and reach, making it clear that staying current helps content reach all different kinds of audiences and if done correctly can lead to conversion.
4. Graphics should be designed with the audience in mind.
One of my biggest lessons was learning how different audiences respond to different design styles. Creating content that resonates means tailoring graphics—whether through color schemes, typography, or layout choices—to match the preferences and expectations of the target audience.
5. Adaptability is a must.
Social media never sleeps, and things can change in an instant. I learned how to pivot quickly whether that meant adjusting content for a trending moment or reworking a post to meet client needs.
One lesson I’ll carry with me into future roles is the importance of balancing creativity with strategy. Social media may seem like just fun posts and videos, but real impact comes from intentional planning.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to build a career in marketing where I can combine creativity, strategy, and storytelling to help brands connect with their audiences in meaningful ways. My time at Oliver & Co Social has given me both confidence and clarity in the path I want to pursue—and I’m so grateful for the experience.
