Three Tips to Grow Your Small Business’s Social Media Presence

It’s no secret that having a strong social media presence has become essential in aiding the growth of small businesses in recent years. However, you don’t need to “go viral” to make a huge impact. After a global pandemic, more people than ever want to shop local and support small businesses, but with all of the information out there it can be hard to know where to start. Whether you are looking to hire a social media manager for your business or want to pursue a career in digital marketing, here are three tips to help get you started with building a professional business presence on social media.

1. Choose the Social Media Channels that are Right for You

One of the most important things in getting your company started in social media is deciphering which social media channels reflect your consumer base. With all the different platforms out today, it is hard to know which ones will be the most beneficial to you. This is why it is important to identify your target audience and apply that to the correct channel. For example, a company that sells clothing for teens might want to focus their efforts into Instagram and TikTok, while a company with an older consumer base is going to want to focus on Facebook.

2. Post Consistently and Intentionally

Once you know the main channels to focus on, you then need to decide how you are going to use them. It is important to post consistently and make sure your content is intentional. You want your posts to be helpful and encourage your followers to interact with your brand in a desirable way, whether that is by purchasing a product, coming in for a meeting, or learning from the content you post. To do this, you need to understand your audience’s needs and how you can help meet those needs. Information like this can be found in several different ways. Research content for your industry or see what has performed well through prior analytics, or even simply use the poll feature to ask your followers what interests them. From there you can go deeper and find the best times to post specifically on that platform and for your industry. Staying consistent with your posts is crucial to keep an active following and is a very important aspect of social media marketing.

3. Actively engage with your followers

Although it may seem obvious, a lot of accounts forget how important it is to actively engage with their followers. This can come in the form of responding to comments or direct messages, liking relevant posts, and answering questions. Doing this builds trust with your followers and shows them that you are invested in their interest in your brand. It also helps build relationships over time leading to dedicated and loyal customers as a result.

These tips are a great way to get started with building your small business’s social media presence, but if you’d rather skip the hassle or could use some more help managing your social media, check out our services or send us an email at hello@oliverandco.social.
